"Life" presents itself as a profound investigation into the stratification of identity.
Created using a distinctive technique on plexiglass, the work plays with scratches and layered applications that create a kind of “historical transparency”: the face is not simply painted; it seems to emerge from a palimpsest of chromatic memories, evoking the inexorable passage of time.

The composition draws its strength from a dynamic tension between the cool blue of the upper section and the solar energy of the yellows and oranges. This contrast of forces reflects the artist’s mastery over the medium as well as a profound anthropological inquiry. The features, marked by bright eyes and an ancestral smile, evoke the roots of Mediterranean culture, merging compositional rigor with a vibrant, warm figurative instinct.

The title, which means “Vita” in Italian, elevates the work to the level of a universal philosophical reflection. For the Italian viewer, the term also suggests the concept of a “journey” (the plural of life in Italian): we are not confronted with a mere portrait, but with the affirmation of an existence unfolding through the marks of experience. It is an invitation to explore the soul, where each scratch on the surface represents a trace of lived life, transforming the plastic medium into a genuine spiritual diary.

Born in Switzerland and nurtured by a multicultural environment, André Tscherrig (also known as Andreas Toto Tscherrig) is an artist whose language was shaped between the rigor of Northern Europe and the luminosity of Mediterranean landscapes.

His research focuses on transcending two-dimensionality through the use of unconventional supports such as plexiglass. His works are distinguished by a technique that combines painting, collage, and engraving, where the artistic gesture becomes an act of “excavation” within the material.

Tscherrig continuously explores the themes of human identity and time, transforming the plastic medium into a space for anthropological and spiritual reflection.

His works have been exhibited in various European galleries and featured in major group exhibitions and contemporary art fairs, where they stand out for their chromatic intensity and their ability to engage in a dialogue with both light and the viewer.
